How to Build a Strong War Base

Compartmentalization, Town Hall placement, and trap timing — the three things that actually matter.

Compartmentalize instead of ringing

A single outer wall ring with everything inside is easy to build and easy to break — once an attacker is through the one layer, nothing slows them down again. Splitting the base into smaller walled cells forces an attacker to breach repeatedly, and every extra breach costs time, troops, or both.

The goal isn't to make any one cell impossible to open — it's to make opening all of them, in sequence, expensive enough that the attack runs out of troops or time before it reaches everything.

Where the Town Hall goes depends on your goal

For war, centralize it: put the Town Hall behind your strongest compartment, alongside your best defenses, so a 3-star genuinely requires beating your hardest section — not just crossing an outer wall.

For trophy pushing, the opposite logic applies: isolate the Town Hall in its own small walled pocket away from the real base. Attackers who only want a quick Town Hall snipe for a cheap 1-star still have to cross open ground to reach it, while your actual loot and defenses sit in a separate, stronger compartment they may not bother attacking at all.

Traps go where the attack is forced to go

A trap in the open gets triggered by the first stray troop and does nothing useful. Traps earn their value at chokepoints — the single path between two compartments, or right where a funnel forces troops to bunch up. Placing a couple of traps near an isolated Town Hall pocket also punishes anyone trying to snipe it directly.
