How Clan War League (CWL) Works
The format, the medals, and how to scout your group before your first attack.
The format
Clan War League runs as a season inside a season: your clan gets grouped with seven others of roughly similar strength, and the group plays one war per day across roughly a week. Unlike a normal war, everyone in the group is locked in for the whole run — there's no re-matching clan to clan each day, just a new opponent from the same fixed group of eight.
Each clan gets one attack per member per day (not two, like a regular war), which puts a premium on hitting clean, efficient attacks rather than banking a second attempt to clean up a mistake.
How you actually get League Medals
League Medals are earned individually, from the stars your own attacks bring in across the week's CWL wars — not just from your clan winning. Your clan's final placement in its eight-clan group then scales that payout: the higher your group finishes, and the higher CWL league tier your clan sits in, the more medals each member takes home for the same star total.
Medals go into the CWL shop, spent on league-exclusive rewards you can't get any other way in the game. Clans also move up or down between CWL league tiers based on group performance each season, so a strong week doesn't just pay out medals now — it changes who you're grouped against, and how many medals the same performance is worth, next time.
Scouting your group
Because the whole group is visible before the war days start, CWL is the one time you can actually scout every opponent's roster in advance — normal war matchmaking never shows you a potential opponent until the war begins. Once your group is set, every clan's real roster is public for the rest of the season. That's a genuine edge if you use it: check average Town Hall level across the group, see which clans are heavier or lighter than yours, and plan which days you can push hard versus which opponent is going to be a stretch.
This site's War Room does exactly that — pull your clan's CWL group and see a real roster comparison against all seven opponents, not just your own.
